Tips and Tricks

IMPORTANT

It's necessary to give camera permission to play the game! Don't worry! This is strictly for gameplay purposes! This web page has no external connections and your beautiful face won't be sent anywhere nor stored locally!

Powers

All powers are performed using your hand. Join your index finger and your thumb to use the powers. Use the following combinations to change the selected power:

Create Farmland
Extend index finger
Create Forest
Extend index and middle fingers
Scorch
Extend, middle and ring fingers
Final Judgment

Hand of God

You are god. Your power lies within your hand.

Position you hand in front of the camera and your powers will take effect where you index finger's tip is.

In order to activate your powers, you must touch your index finger and your thumb.

Hand of God.

Starting the Game

To start the game you must choose where the civilization will be located.

Choose a nice and cozy place for the miniscule mortal beings and watch as they grow their civilization.

Creating the civilization.

Powers

All powers are related to a specific hand gesture to activate. Gestures are a combination of extended fingers. After activation, the Hand of God changes to the color of the chosen power. Each power has a specific God Points cost associated, which is shown during gameplay.

Create Farmland

Creates a plot of farmland in an empty grass plot.

Cost: 50 GP per plot

Gesture: Index finger extended

Power: Create Farmland.

Create Forest

Creates a plot of forest in an empty grass plot.

Cost: 50 GP per plot

Gesture: Index and middle finger extended

Power: Create Forest.

Scorch

Burns and kills everyone that comes in touch with the power.

Income: 500 GP per soul burned

Gesture: Index, middle and ring finger extended

Power: Scorch.

Final Judgement

Bring the wrath of God to those in range. Obliterates all beings and plots of land in a large area.

Quite explosive. Use at own risk!

Cost: 2500 per Judgment

Gesture: Index, middle, ring and pinky fingers extended

Power: Final Judgment.

The World

The world is procedurally generated every time the game starts, making every run unique with different challenges.

Plots of Land

Grass

Color: Light Green

Free plot of land that can be transformed into a farmland or forest by God.

Water

Color: Light Blue

Plot of land that cannot be transformed into farmland or forest. Workers can traverse water by the use of a boat.

Farmland

Color: Yellow

Plot of land capable of producing food by a farmer.

Forest

Color: Dark Green

Plot of land capable of producing wood by a woodcutter.

No Man's Land

Color: Dark Grey

Plot of land that is left behind from the Final Judgement. Has no use nor can it be recovered.

The World.

The Civilization

Food

The people consume food during time. The more people there are, the more food they consume.

Houses

Each house can fit 5 people. To build more houses the civilization needs wood. Watch the civilization grow as the people build more houses.

The houses are represented by different shades of brown rectangles that are built around the civilization center.

Big civilization.

Workers

In this society, everybody is born with a specific job for life.

Farmer

Color: Red

Goes to a plot of farmland and creates food for the civilization.

Woodcutter

Color: Orange

Goes to a plot of forest and creates wood for the civilization.

Food Carrier

Color: Pink

Goes to the closest food resource produced by farmers and brings it to the civilization to be used.

Wood Carrier

Color: Blue

Goes to the closest wood resource produced by woodcutters and brings it to the civilization to be used.

Workers.

Population Control

The food consumption is exponentially increased the more people there are in the civilization. Keep the number of people in check by using Scorch. I know you are their God, but don't get too attached! You are seeing the World from too far away to see their suffering!

God Points Economy

This comes hand in hand with the Population Control. Always keep your GP in mind, as running out of them can be a free ticket for the civilization to plummet to it's demise!

Time of Travel of Carriers

All workers take time to travel. Carriers are faster than all other workers but they still take time to go around! Keep resource production plots near your civilization center for faster production.

Spread Out the People

Although it's good to have resource plots close to each other, try to spread them out around the civilization in such a way that not all workers clump together. If they are tightly packed you may end up taking more lives than expected when you use Scorch! And you aren't that bad of a God. Right?

Final Judgment

It's fun to use! Just don't feel remorse after!

The Hand of God

In order to track the hand and the position of its different elements I used ML5.js PoseNet.

PoseNet also gives access to the state of each finger, such as if it's curled or extended.

I then map the positions of the fingers to the index of the world's map tiles.

Hand of God gif.

The World

The world uses a noise texture for the procedural generation.

The values from the texture are used to choose what type of plot each tile will be.

The settings of the noise texture give the world a nice mix of land and sea, filling in the land with forests and farmlands.

World Generation.

The Civilization

The People

The workers function with an A* search for the detection of their resources to work on.

The movement works in a simple straight line, as adding more complex movement was creating a lot of lag with the amount of moving pieces plus PoseNet reading the players input at all times.

To combat the straight line movement, workers get boats when they are on water, at least this way they don't seem to randomly gain the power to walk on the sea.

A* Star Workers.

The City

The city spawns houses randomly around the city center, trying to mimic a growing civilization as the number of houses grow.
